Downloading and installing Java from Sun Microsystems is a very easy and quick process. It is very useful to have Java installed
and enabled on your PC as thousands of websites worldwide provide content such as games, video, applications, screensavers, greeting cards, etc.
which can only be seen if you have Java.
Download Java from the Sun Microsystems website
and follow the instructions below depending on which browser you use. The instructions are given
for both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
N.B. To install Java, you must be logged onto your computer as an 'Administrator', not a 'User'.
Internet Explorer - Easiest Method:
1. When on the Java.com website, click 'Download' next to 'Windows (Offline Installation)'.
2. In the next dialogue box, click 'Save'. Remember the place you've saved the file and then when it's
finished downloading, select 'Open Folder' from the next dialogue box and find the file.
3. Double-click on the file and then select 'Run' from the next dialogue box to install.
4. After installation, try refreshing the page before restarting the browser
as sometimes that's enough to 'kick-start' Java on the page so you can see iPIX images.
Mozilla Firefox
1. Sometimes it installs Java automatically when you view a page that requires it and you don't already have it
installed.
2. Alternatively, click here
to go to the Java.com website where you need to click on 'Download' next to Windows XPI.
3. You need to click 'Edit options' at the top right just above the Java web page browser window, 'Allow' Java.com in
the dialogue box, then click 'Download' next to Windows XPI again and 'Install Now'.
4. Whether it installs automatically or you have to download the Windows XPI, after it's finished downloading, you
must close the browser window (and any others you have open) and reopen Mozilla Firefox for you to see iPIX
images in the browser.
